Dreading the 'near-record highs'
Well, at least the weather today was still awesome (no humidity and not too hot) because tomorrow and Tues. are supposed to be really hot again. I knew this stretch of fall weather was too good to be true. But anyway--for the day after a very long run, I felt decent today. The friend who I ran with on Thursday is still in town and asked if I wanted to run at Walden with her. Of course that sounded great! But then we were short on time because I needed to get back to my apartment at a certain time, so we went to the Fells instead. Alison has explored the Fells a lot since she's been here in the Boston area, but for me it's still pretty much a mystery. But my friend grew up running in the Fells, so she knows it well. (In fact, the only other time I've run in there before today was with her when I was visiting my grandparents one Thanksgiving.)
Despite her familiarity with the trails, it's a big place and we did get a little turned around a couple of times. And two mountain bikers almost ran us down. But aside from that, it felt great to be running on trails and just follow along and not have to think about where I was going! My left hip hurt me for the first five minutes of the run (which were downhill) but then seemed to loosen up. It's been bothering me a bit so I will watch it.
I swam for a bit this afternoon to loosen up my legs a little. It felt pretty good but I kept feeling like I was swallowing water and my throat was burning. Maybe that's from not being used to swimming again, I'm not sure.
I've got to go help Matt with something so he doesn't overwrite a Web site he's trying to update!
