Longish Prospect Park run
I met T. at his place this morning and he was not looking like he wanted to run the 12 or so miles we had talked about yesterday. He pulled something weird in his quad area when he was running sprints up the Great Wall in China a couple of weeks ago. (That'll teach ya!) But we decided to give it a try and as usually happens, his leg loosened up a little while into the run.
On our way to Prospect Park, we stopped by B.'s house to collect him. He, too, has been away so I haven't run with him since the Bronx Half in the beginning of July. He took us on a non-traditional loop of the Park, going mostly on the trails and through some tunnels that go under the main Park road. It was pretty hilly--B. had just spent 2 weeks running in the hills of France--and T. and I were both sucking wind on the steepest ones. After he did one loop with us, B. ran home and we set out for another (traditional/normal) loop. We ran home the usual way after that, making it probably about 12 miles. (Hard to tell because of the trail parts.)
My legs were feeling okay today, except for some general knee achiness, but my stomach was bothering me again. It wasn't like I needed to find a bathroom, it just felt heavy and annoying. Sometimes that happens when I get up even earlier than usual and my body isn't ready yet to be awake!
The humidity wasn't too bad yet this morning, but when I was walking around this afternoon and tonight it was getting back to stifling levels. Yuck. In fact, we are watching the news right now and the aptly named Storm Field (ABC 7 weatherman) just informed me that "the heat is on" and this summer in 2005 we have had 17 days of 90+ temps so far, compared to 1 (!) in 2004. It really is too bad I was injured last summer and not running!
We took the train up to Westchester after work tonight and are staying at Matt's mom's house so that we can leave in the morning for our NY State adventure. The wedding we are headed to is between Buffalo and Rochester (sort of), and there's even an XC race tomorrow afternoon to kick things off. (We won't make it in time.) We plan to make a slight detour to Ithaca and have lunch with Matt's advisor from Cornell, and then get back on the road to (hopefully) make it to the rehearsal dinner on time.
I'm a little apprehensive about running this weekend, especially my long run, just because I'm unfamiliar with the area. I've mapped out a route using the pedometer based on Google Maps(so cool!), but it always SEEMS so easy when you look on a map. I'm sure also that it will be extremely hilly. I'll do my best!
I also doubt I'll have much internet access this weekend, so I'll have to post when I return if need be. Happy (almost) weekend!

Wow that pedometer is awesome! I had no idea about it. Now I'll probably become obsessed mapping out my routes! ;) I seem to be a good judge of distance though, b/c I just traced some of my usual ones and they are more or less the length I thought.
