Return to the pool
I am very sleepy so this will be brief! I went running early this morning with T., who has returned after spending last week in Montreal and Boston at academic meetings. I was glad to have the company and his understanding that I was running on tired legs after the track last night. We ran for about 50 minutes and I was relieved to find that switching my shoes (my new ones haven't arrived yet, but I have a barely-run in pair of Kayanos around) seemed to help my sore ankles and calves.
After the run I did some straightening up around the apartment and went up to the Foundation office. Unfortunately it was a slow day up there and I spent most of the day researching classes to take in the fall. Sitting in front of the computer without a clear task is one of the most tiring things, I think. I left at about 4 and went for a quick swim at one of the three NYSC locations that has a pool--this one, at 20 yards, is the largest. It was do-able, but I definitely noticed the short laps and felt like I was pushing off the wall every few strokes. I mostly pulled but did some kicking and regular swimming too. I'm definitely out of swimming shape already but it was nice to be back in the water.
After the gym, I picked up dinner and went to a free Dar Williams concert at Madison Square Park, a small park between Fifth and Madison Avenues in the mid-20s. I was supposed to meet a friend from school there but she never showed up, or she showed up too late to find the spot I had saved. Dar only played for an hour but it was a great set. She has a new album coming out in a couple of weeks and I was glad to get a preview!
OK, off to bed--I'm exhausted.

Here's an exchange P and I just had:
Alison: Dar has a new album coming out.
P: That's interesting.
Alison: I learned that on Becky's blog.
P: (Laughs)
Alison: It's where I get all of my world news.
Thanks for keeping me informed! :-)
