Reality check

I met up this morning with my new triathlete/water polo friend from the gym and two of her friends for a run by the river. As I mentioned yesterday, one of the friends is an accomplished marathoner from Australia who is in Boston doing a fellowship in medicine for a couple of years. The pace actually felt okay until about a half hour into the run, when all of a sudden my body was like, "OK, that's enough of that pace for today," (it was definitely quicker than I've been running, maybe 7:30 or so, but nothing too crazy) and I found myself falling off the pace. I didn't really mind that much though; I was glad that I was able to keep up for that long with no major aches and pains. So I kept the group in sight for almost the rest of the run (about another 30 minutes) but lost them when I got stuck at a light. In the end, it was a good effort, if not as long as I had wanted to run. But I have to remember that I'm still building back up.

I had parked at MIT to meet for the run, so I did a little bit of biking and some lifting when I got back. Then I realized I was hungry and went home hoping Matt had at least made some coffee for us, but he was enjoying a leisurely morning (well, almost afternoon by that point) in bed. Once I did eat I felt a lot better.

Today we've just been hanging out at home and doing work. Tonight we're going to a birthday dinner for one of my best friends from college--she's in town visiting her boyfriend. I haven't seen her in several months so I'm looking forward to it!
