Time to take action
I'm kind of depressed about this, so I don't feel like writing much. I made it through today's run but my achilles was very sore afterwards and now hurts basically all the time walking around. I'm trying not to think too far into the future as to what to do about Boston, and instead take it one day at a time. I tried ellipticalling a bit today to see if that was painful, and it was pretty much the same as running, it would come and go. So I'll swim tomorrow and stay off my feet as much as I can and just try not to feel guilty or freak out about this. I know all of you have been there or are there and will understand when I say THIS SUCKS.

Becky, definitely do not freak out. Take a few days, see if you can see a massage therapist, and stretch. Don't try to make up what you have missed, and keep moving forward. Boston is still 5 weeks away, there is plenty of time. Rest and take care of yourself.

Hey Becky- hang in there. I went through a spell of Achilles tendonitis a few months back and it definitely stinks, but you can also get through it. Going to PT really helped me out, and I'm happy to share the exercises my therapist had me do if you're interested. Anti-inflams and icing are aslo definitely the way to go.
Take care and good luck.

One more thing I forgot to mention was that when my achilles hurt the worst I ran in the pool for about a week straight with no other forms of crosstraining. That alleviated the pain and then I could get back into biking and running. Remember...there are plenty of other spring marathons, so don't feel forced to run Boston on a bad achilles!

Becky, I know you're bummed right now, but you're definitely doing the right thing. I hope it heals up very, very soon.
I don't know if this would help, but I bought one of those achilles tendon support braces (looks like a Chopat) from Road Runner, which I use preemptively when that area starts to ache. If anything, it would stop excess movement when you're walking to classes.

Becky, I know exactly how you feel, because it's how I've felt for the past few days. I would just recommend trying to stay as positive as possible, and icing, massaging, taking ibuprofen, gently stretching, anything that you think might possibly help. Pool running sounds good - as long as it doesn't bother it - just go in there and take all of your frustration out by working hard. It sounds like you're catching it early, so hopefully this is reversible. I'm not saying anything other people haven't already said, but I just wanted to let you know that I empathize!!
