'Gut check'

For some reason, the SRR coach kept referring to tonight's workout as a "gut check." Having never heard the term before, I didn't really know what he meant, but it kept running through my head all day and especially during the workout!

I had class this morning (ran about 3 miles before that) and then had time for a nice nap before going to the track. I tried to do some work but my eyes kept closing, so finally I gave in. I warmed up alone tonight because the woman I've been warming up with is away on a business trip, and I was paranoid I was going to fall on the remaining patches of ice. Luckily, I didn't. (We're supposed to get some more snow/ice/rain tonight and then it is supposed to get into the 60s, which means I'll be sweltering.) The "gut check" workout was 4 x 1200 at a fairly hard pace and then 2 x 200 as well. A group of 4 of us were working together and trying to hit between 4:45-4:50. My legs sure were heavy from Sunday's long run, but my knee wasn't too bad, just the usual indoor-tight-turn-track tightness, and I managed to get a little faster each time and was within the target range. On the 200s, I was again humiliated by the closet sprinters I have been training with. I managed 38s but my knee hurt a lot on the first one--I bet I was tightening up.

All right, I've got an early morning doctor's appointment tomorrow so I better get going on the things I need to do tonight.
