Last night's excitement

It turned out the battery was dead in my parents' car, so Matt came to pick me up but by that time it was too late to stop at the gym. So we picked up a couple of movies at Blockbuster and decided just to stay in. We were in the middle of one of them (We Don't Live Here Anymore) when Matt's mom's boyfriend came to tell us he had to take her to the emergency room! She has had flu symptoms since Sat. and all of a sudden developed these awful stomach pains, so her doctor told her to go to the ER.

She's actually still in the hospital now, although feeling much better. She had some sort of electrolyte imbalance due to not eating much at all since Saturday, plus she doesn't eat ANY sodium anyway. She should be home tomorrow, but it has been scary. Let this be a lesson to everyone--especially all of us athletes!--to never neglect eating even when we don't feel so hot.

Anyway, we stayed up late worrying and watching a second movie (Collateral Damage) so I woke up pretty late and didn't go running until 10. I don't know my way around Matt's town as well as my own, obviously, so I was looking for someplace new to run. I decided to go down a street marked "private" when the guard waved me through. All the houses are huge and built right on the (Long Island) Sound, and they were amazing.

I cut through a country club's golf course after that and got completely stuck because it appeared that I was fenced in all around me! I didn't mind running extra on the golf course though because the snow had mostly melted and it was really pretty. I finally found a way out and luckily knew where I was, so the rest of the loop was something I had done many times. My knee was feeling pretty good, or at least started to about 30 minutes into the run. My calves were a bit sore from my hilly pickups yesterday, but otherwise I felt pretty good.

Later today I finally got to the gym, using my sister's membership again. I biked and then took my time lifting. It was nice and empty in there, just the way I like it.

I heard that it was going to be 60 degrees here in NY on New Year's Day. Of course this sort of unseasonable warmth freaks me out. It's easy in terms of running clothes, at least, but since I only packed for a few (cold) days I don't have the right stuff to wear for this brunch we are going to. Aargh! Global warming is out to get me!

Glad you are having fun trotting around Long Island, and that the knee is behaving.

I am dying to know what you thought of We Don't Live Here Anymore, I really wanted to see it when it came out but I didn't get around to it.

Happy New Year!

I hope that the MIL is doing better. I need to take that lesson to heart, I tend to slack on eating when I don't feel well. Enjoy the rest of your break!

That's terrible about Matt's mom. I hope she's recovering okay. Tell her to have some salt, it's okay! :)

Also sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I hope that a good dose of the emergency room left her feeling better. And I feel very lucky that I wasn't as sick as her. Take care, Meghan
