Wow, I'm slow

Happy Thanksgiving! I did end up sneaking out to the Greenwich race this morning and I'm glad I did, but it was quite humbling. There were only about 60 people in the whole race! It was very rolling and I felt great the first two miles, doing 7:15s and feeling relaxed. The plan was to pick it up after 4 miles or so and while I felt strong the whole time, I never could get much more turnover and ran about 45 minutes for 6 miles (I think I was the third woman; there wasn't much competition.) I was thinking I wouldn't have that much of a problem doing about 42 minutes as a "tempo" run. Oy. I guess it just shows that I am still tired from the quarters and that the speedwork I'm doing can only help.

It was a cute race, though--no t-shirts or anything, but it benefitted the Greenwich HS track and XC programs. There was no traffic stoppage or anything, though, so there was one hairy highway crossing. Gotta love these local races. Oh, and I ran the first 3 miles with a woman who runs for Warren Street in NYC and is just coming back from an injury herself--she was encouraging that my speed will come back.

With my warmup and cooldown, I probably got close to 10 miles and then I sped back to Westchester. (Not literally of course--too many cops out on Thanksgiving!) I'd like to lift today (there is a small gym in the house where we are staying) but I don't know if it'll happen. Anyway, the other female members of the household are making popovers now, so I better go see if I can help....
