Wishing I had worn pants
OK, even I can admit that here on the East Coast, there comes a day when it's time to pull out the 'ole running tights. I think today was the day, but I didn't realize it had gotten so much colder overnight, so I of course put on my shorts. Luckily I had an inkling that I needed something a little extra today and wore my earband. I figured I would take it off right away, but amazingly it stayed on the whole time. My knee again felt pretty good as I ran a little less than an hour, wanting to do more but running out of time. It stiffened up right as I was almost back home, but I was happy.
It was very windy again, which must have been the cause of my chapped legs that are burning right now. One of the other side-effects that I forget about being a major sweater is that my sweaty legs get wind-burned all winter, even through my tights. I must remember to apply some lotion or something, or I will be a scaly monster by the end of the winter. Ouch.
This afternoon I ellipticalled and lifted, which was uneventful. The gym has been getting super-crowded in the afternoons, maybe because people are too cold to do their usual sports outside? Anyway, I was miffed when someone crammed their stuff into the cubby I was using for my stuff. Damn students.
Next week starts indoor track workouts for the club I just joined, and while I'm excited to get some speed back into my routine, I'm really nervous. This is the first break I've had from doing speedwork since the summer after college (I graduated in 1999 and started track again the first Wed. in January 2000.) I know I am still out of shape and won't feel like my old self for a while, but I guess I shouldn't worry about being "slow" (especially in a new group) and concentrate on just improving each week! Anyway, I have a week more to worry :)
Back to making dinner...

Which club did you join? (If you don't want to answer here, I understand.)

No, I don't mind. I joined Somerville RR since I've met some of the people through my friend who used to live in the area and run with them. But I'm also thinking about trying out the BAA's "B" team (Sarah runs with them)--they don't really have anything to do with the sponsored runners, and if I'm not too slow (definite possibility) I'd be interested. I have been in touch with the coach but they are on a workout hiatus for the next couple of weeks also.
