Fall foliage and crew fans

My pain in the butt flared up again as soon as I started running today, but I stopped to stretch it a few times and it did get better. Stopping for lights is the worst, so I tried to keep jogging in place even when I had to "stop." Everywhere I went today seemed really crowded, especially Harvard Square, so I quickly made my way out of there and did my Fresh Pond loop partly since a lot of the trail is dirt and partly because the leaves are so pretty there right now. There is an overlook there that is so breathtaking--I can't wait to see it in the snow.

I decided to loop back via the river, because Head of the Charles is going on this weekend and I have never been. Although I was disappointed to see how commercial it was (food and clothing vendors in tents along the river, etc.), it was really neat to see all those boats out there at once. It is pretty windy and chilly here today, so I felt kind of bad for all the athletes. Although I don't know what "ideal" rowing weather is--but I bet it involves the sun.

I wanted to lift today but we are going to meet my friend from college up near Salem, MA for an early dinner and it takes awhile to get out there. Hopefully I'll get a chance to hit the gym tomorrow after watching the Mayor's Cup. I'm running before that with a friend of a friend I haven't met yet but I've only heard great things about her! She lives in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston which apparently has lots of great trails. I can't wait to run with someone again... hopefully my nemeses, my knee and my butt, will behave.
