Is this for real?

I noticed a headline on Dyestatcal about a 12 year old running 16:12 for 5K in a road race in California. Wouldn't this be some sort of record, or close to it? I wonder if that article is accurate. It claims she won the women's race by a five-minute margin.

Oh, it would definitely be a record. Supposedly she already had the record - she ran 17:06 about two weeks earlier on a certified course. This girl didn't come out of nowhere, she's run 4:34 and 9:48 already. But 16:12?! That's faster than Molly Huddle ran on the roads as a high school senior.

I'm pretending to sound knowledgeable about this, but I learned everything I know this morning after reading your blog entry!

Even if it turns out that the 16:12 is short, all of her other performances are amazing. I just hope she's still healthy and running well 5 or 10 years from now.
