wah!!!!!

I am in Minnesota for work and I sprained the living crap out of my ankle this morning on a run. I am so upset!! It is super swollen and painful. And there is a ton of walking to be done in the airport. And I hate it when the universe makes me take time off. The last time I sprained my ankle was probably 5 1/2 years ago and I had to take four weeks off and go to this awesome PT in Boulder because somehow I got Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis (I have no idea if that's spelled correctly) from the sprain. I think that probably happened again just based on how it feels.

Luckily I had read a big blog entry about deep recovery and I never really took a bunch of time off after my season so I'm trying hard to convince myself that it's for the best. Deep recovery should theoretically make my muscles totally rested and somehow make me faster in 2009. I hope. Oh I am so nervous!!

Before my run this morning sucked the life out of me I did go for a swim at a gym up here in a 25 yard pool. They are so cute and short! I felt like I was turning constantly and I kept losing track of my laps because they were so short. It was good for my ego however!

I am running off to the airport, I'll try to write more before I head off on vacation!!

Mondays that are Fridays

Today is such a confusing day. It's Monday, but it's kind of like Friday because I have a holiday tomorrow. It is kind of awesome!! Definitely takes the edge off of a Monday situation.

I have been so busy lately with work and workouts and my social life that it has been hard to blog. I am training though. Basically I am doing a Maintenance plan with MAO right now. It is 14 workouts per week which was my standard through the season but they are all much shorter and less intense so it doesn't feel too bad at all. In the pool I am focusing on improving my technique and mechanics. On the bike I am working on spinning more and crushing my muscles less as I have a tendency to push harder gears than I should for some reason. And on the run I am just having a good time and enjoying getting outside! It still hasn't snowed yet which is very unusual, but it has meant a longer season of outside workouts in all three disciplines. It is supposed to snow tonight, however, and it's pretty cold, so I think this evening I will be riding on the trainer catching up on cheesy TV shows that I love.

My travel schedule is about to get kind of crazy so I cannot promise that my blogging frequency will improve any time soon. I am flying to San Francisco on Friday afternoon. From there I'm heading straight to Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon for work. I get back Wednesday evening. Then Saturday, 11/22, I am leaving on a red eye for New York and St. Martin. I will be in one of those two places for 10 days. It will be weird not being in Denver for Thanksgiving, and I am sad to say I will end a streak of many Turkey Trot races. However, I absolutely love New York and my trip to St Martin is going to be amazing! After that I plan to be in Denver for several months. I think my many trips will wreak some amount of havoc on my training but hopefully I can get by with a little break from biking, I can swim in the ocean in St Martin, and luckily I can run just about anywhere. Honestly this trip is kind of why my post-season recovery was not that substantial - I knew I'd have two weeks off on my vacation and didn't want to be stressed about it.

There is not too much else that is going on these days. I am so excited for 2009 and I am really glad my season will be longer - it seems like I trained an awful lot this year for only 5 races. Next year I hope to race closer to 10 times. Live and learn I guess - in the big scheme of things I'm definitely still a tri rookie!
