flip turn mania!!
I am just going to ignore the fact that I am a blog slacker today. Even though I have lots of fun and exciting training to discuss all the time, it seems that by the time I am done working and training and playing scrabulous, I do not feel the drive to blog!
Anyway I have been training a lot. Some might say too much. In fact I should probably look into getting a coach or a team situation going one of these days, so I know how to train. I think I may at least join a club soon, so I can get some sweet gear discounts going if nothing else!
My most exciting training news transpired yesterday. I was super motivated to improve my crappy swimming this past weekend (I had a holiday yesterday so it was a three day weekend), so I swam Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. And on Monday (yesterday), I was kind of bored in the pool so I decided I would attempt to learn flip turns. I had tried them before without smashing success, I have just never been good with knowing when to turn and not drowning myself upon attempting to turn. But yesterday I guess I was really determined!! I totally nailed a few of them and swam for about 15 minutes straight flip turning on every turn. The first few attempts, I was getting water in my goggles but even that straightened itself out somehow.
Anyway I felt like a bit of a rock star upon my exit of the pool. And I do think that flip turning makes swimming harder, so that is good - it'll make my tri swims seem just that much easier! Now if I can only figure out how to get my hair color to stay even though I am killing it with the chlorine, I'll really be in business!
That is my training excitement for the last few weeks. I guess they have been kind of dull! I've been trying to run less, bike more, and swim way more. So far I have been marginally successful. I still need to take more days off from running which has always been hard for me due to my obsessive personality. But I do feel that my mileage is pretty low, or at least low enough that I'm not overtraining but I will still be able to finish the Brooklyn Half in April. Speaking of which, I am very excited about this as it will be my first half marathon ever at sea level!! Hooray for oxygen :)
