memories of last december...
Are floating around in my little head and making me dizzy!! I don't know if you guys (my loyal readers that is) remember my whining and complaining about our constant snow last winter around this time, but I did very vocally. Anyway yesterday we had a gorgeous white Christmas, wherein we received about 7 inches of snow. It was beautiful! And fun! And made us feel like we are 10 years old as we walked over to a friend's house about a mile and a half away in the new snow, bouncing around in all the fluffy stuff. Oh how fun. Now I just hope it will melt and not leave us with rutted roads and blizzards every Thursday for three months. Anyway, we could not have asked for a more picturesque Christmas. Perhaps I will post a photo in a few days. Bodie (Bowdoin the Puppy) loved it. And luckily, as it snowed all day, I ran in the morning, in only an inch or two, which is a much better running environment. I think just about every year I think about taking Christmas off from running and working out, just because most everyone thinks I am insane for running on Christmas and sometimes I think I may be too. But then I think about it, and realize that I love running, and if Christmas is supposed to be a day for doing what you love and being with your family and all that, I should run! I only ran about 4 miles, but it was just awesome. I had a great time.
This morning I slept in which turned out to be a good thing as when I got in the car it was 5 degrees out. That is just about my limit for outdoor running in most circumstances (i.e. unless there is no other way to get a workout in), and I think I will be a happier camper on a nice warm treadmill at lunchtime, and on my trainer this evening.
And now I am off to shop for cold weather running gear, that I feel must be on sale right now! Oh, how I love running gear!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous holiday season.

merry christmas eve!!
I know, I am a huge slacker. I do not know what my problem is. Anyway I really still run and work out and all that stuff, I am just not very good about writing about it these days! However, today I am at work and it is really quiet so I even have time to blog. Amazing, right?
So what has been up lately? Well, I quit my running team - I just can't be driving to Boulder every week, and I don't think the weekly schedules I was getting will fit that well with my goals for 2008. And I am cheap. So there you go. I was reading Beth's blog today, and she is of course always inspiring and always has cool ideas. And she had a link there to the Best of the US tri qualifiers, and well I was kind of bored, so I went ahead and signed up for the Colorado qualifier. I would have a heart attack if I was even in shouting distance of qualifying for the national event, but what the heck - I'd been wanting to do this race anyway. I am pretty excited! I love signing up for races. I still haven't decided what to do about the Boulder series I did last year (meaning whether or not I want to do the whole series again), but at least I have one race I am definitely doing. It should be fun, and it is about 10 minutes from Matt's parents' house, so I should not have to wake up at 4:00 am like I do for the Boulder races.
I am really excited about tris for 2008 although to date (since about September) I've been running too much and biking and swimming far too little. What can I say, running is easy and not very time consuming. But I am working on getting on the bike 2-3 times per week, even if it's on my trainer, and getting back in the pool. I have also decided that since I tend to be very stiff I really should be doing yoga once a week. And now you know why I do not have time to blog, if I'm really working out that much!
I am not sure if I have publicly shared this goal, but I have decided that if I am in the top 10 in my age group this year in one of my tris, I will give myself permission to buy a sweet tri bike. How exciting!! Tri gear is so much fun. I am still also contemplating my existence per the marathon experience, deciding if I really want to run marathons any more. If I do, I think I will be running Portland in 2008.
I am about to head out for a lunchtime workout, and then we are heading over to my parents' for Christmas festivities. We are staying over which is always so much fun, I love waking up at my parents' house on Christmas morning!! I am blessed by an absolutely amazing family, I love them all, and I am so lucky to have them. I hope all of you are feeling blessed this time of year as well!
