nerves!!
I am so nervous for Sunday. I think in fact I have had an unsettled feeling in my stomach for about the last five days. It will be really nice when my first half Ironman is behind me, and I can focus on a known and shorter race, the marathon. After doing three sports for over five hours in fact, maybe the marathon won't seem that bad!
I am feeling pretty good about the swim for Sunday, as I had a good night of practice on Wednesday. I have been reading a memoir of this woman who has done all kinds of insane long distance swims in horrible conditions and cold water, and I think it is motivating me to get into a rhythm when I swim. The bike is stressing me out a bit just because I still haven't ridden 56 miles ever. I am sure I can do it, but I am not sure how fast this will happen. And of course it normally isn't a big deal to run a half marathon, but the forecast for Sunday is still looking ridiculously hot. Right now they are forecasting the high temperature to be 98 degrees. And of course with my start time being the latest one at 7:05 am, I will be finishing after noon. Thus, although I had some preliminary time goals, I think my goal now is just to finish. Which considering it's my first year doing triathlons, and my first try at this distance, seems to be a pretty reasonable goal!
I am not going to rehash my entire week, but probably the highlight of my week in training was biking 33 miles on Monday and getting my first flat. Luckily I met a new friend named Frank (thanks, Frank!!!) who helped me get everything fixed. I have been feeling really good on all my runs so I hope that bodes well for Sunday. This morning I ran a very easy 4 miles, just enjoying being outside when it is nice and cool at 6:00 am. After work today I am going to spin on the bike very easy for about 30 minutes, just to remember how biking feels. And tomorrow I will do a nice mellow trail run (on a pancake flat trail) on my way to pick up my packet. The run I am planning on is my favorite trail in Boulder that runs along the Boulder Creek, so I will also be doing a nice soak in the creek after I finish running.
Anyway wish me luck this weekend, and let's hope for a little cool down in the temperatures across the country! I whine and complain about the heat here but I know at least we do not have humidity to deal with.

Good luck tomorrow. A half ironman is in my future - way in my future - so you are my hero. I dread flats and broken bikes - yet you seem to take it all in stride. Enjoy the day!
