summer running

One thing I have always enjoyed about running in the summer is that on the weekends I get up early and run so that I have the rest of the day to do fun stuff, like hiking, biking, and whatever. However, this weekend was probably the most uncomfortable yet from a heat perspective. Both Saturday and Sunday it was over 100 degrees. Saturday morning running was not bad at all as it was not too hot yet but Sunday I was running by 8:00 and it was already pretty ridiculous. Now having grown up in Colorado this is very atypical. Since we are at a pretty high elevation it usually cools off a lot at night, but it hasn't been doing that very much. I blame the Republicans ;)

Anyway Saturday I ran 8 miles and Sunday I ran 4 miles with my friend C. - we were ostensibly running with our fiances but they fell behind, Matt lost his credit card, and all kinds of drama ensued while we obliviously trotted around the park. It was so nice to have someone to run with. Now that I don't go up to Boulder much I really don't have anyone to run with and most of the time it's fine but sometimes I do wish I had a regular running partner, especially when I'm contemplating getting up or sleeping in at 6:00 am. I'll have to work on that.

I have my 10 year high school reunion this weekend and I really hope it does not involve too many late nights, as I am really hoping for some decent weather and nice outdoor activites. I'm running this 5k on Sunday which I'm not going to taper for or anything - it's basically just a free workout. I have no idea what the course is like and it starts kind of late - 8:00 - but maybe I can run around 22:00 or so. I haven't done a workout in ages so I have no idea as to what kind of shape I'm in. I also have a lunch for C. who is getting married in August but if the weather's not ridiculous afterwards I'm hoping we can go for a hike. It would be really sad to live in Denver and not get out for a single hike this summer!

By the way this morning I slept in because Matt has volleyball tonight, so I'm possibly cross training during lunch and running after work, maybe around 6:30 or so. I just hope it cools off a little!
