Running, skiing, and random thoughts for Friday

This week has just not been exciting from a running perspective, I am sad to say. I am still feeling lethargic all the time in spite of sleeping a lot more, but I did take some vitamins the day before yesterday, which will help, hopefully. I need to remember to take them more often so I might bring them to work. In fact, both of my vitamins are expired – the multi-vitamin expired in December 2005 and the iron supplement expired in January 2006 – so maybe I should toss them and buy some new ones this weekend. I am really bad about taking vitamins but I want to be better about it. I am thinking if I spend some cash on them, maybe I will be better. And maybe if they are at work, I’ll actually remember that they exist!

So yesterday I ran 8 miles. It was pretty pleasant, and the wind wasn’t too strong, so that was a nice change. It was around 50 degrees out when I ran. I didn’t feel great – tired and lethargic – but I didn’t feel terrible either.

Today, I feel the same as I have all week. Basically, not good. I don’t know what the weather’s doing – there’s supposed to be a storm moving in but I don’t know when that’ll happen. So I’m going to head to the gym, and if the weather’s okay, I’ll run 4 to 6 miles outside and then cross train and/or lift. If the weather’s bad, I’ll run on the treadmill. I have to say I don’t mind running on the treadmill sometimes but I really struggle with the offerings of daytime television. The only good times to run are between 10 and 11, and between 3 and 4. It was better during football season but all the stuff on ESPN now is about basketball, hockey, and baseball – yuck! Ah, how I miss football. Such a short but sweet season.

So after work we are going to the mountains. This may be my last day of alpine skiing for quite some time. I definitely need a change – I am thinking next year of possibly doing a lot more cross country skiing, trying to learn to telemark, or maybe just snowshoeing whenever Matt wants to snowboard. I guess with skiing I’ve hit a plateau – either I need to quit my job, move to the mountains, and ski every day to get really good, or I need to stop for a while. Sadly I didn’t become a ski bum in high school where I possibly could have made a living out of it – I have a pretty ideal skier’s body from what I have heard. I am short, with short legs, so I have a low center of gravity (meaning it’s easy for me to stay upright) and I’m pretty muscular and also love going fast. Boy, that would have been cool!

Then on Sunday I plan to sleep in and hopefully kick my exhaustion once and for all! Hopefully I can accomplish that. I’d like to do a long run Sunday and then my training for Cherry Blossom will be mostly complete. It’s coming up soon – very exciting! I can’t wait to go to DC.
