Sleep, run, drive, work, drive, drive, drive

That is the story of my life this week - drive, drive, drive. For yesterday, today, and possibly tomorrow, my commute is 2 hours a day. It is ridiculous and it makes me feel really bad for people that have commutes like this all the time. Although frankly I think some people do it by choice and for them I just do not know what to say! I am just not a glutton for punishment in that particular way. So not only am I driving for a long time to get to work, I am driving really far and going through much gas, which is really annoying me. Not only is it expensive, but I really feel guilty about it since the US is in a fuel shortage currently, and frankly natural resources like the components of which gasoline is made are becoming more and more scarce on a global scale. I am so worried about this and to think that I am personally making it worse by driving so much is really troubling!

So in spite of whining about my commute I have found the time to run this week. Not much or particularly far, but what can you do. Yesterday I had to run after work because I decided that staying in bed was preferable to getting up and trotting around in the dark. It has finally been cooler at night but during the day it's still pretty warm - yesterday when I was driving home on my way to run it was 84 degrees according to my car's thermometer. However, when I was running it didn't feel all that bad.

I ran 8 miles, my normal route, in about 1:10. I had hoped to run a little faster as I was on record pace two miles in, but I kind of died at the end. Oh well, can't win them all. My stomach has been getting pretty upset during a lot of my runs lately which is just another reason to try to run first thing in the morning instead of after work.

After my run we went to a friend's house for dinner and Monday Night Football. I had low to no hopes for the Broncos so I was very pleasantly surprised when they kicked KC's butt! It was a fun night and we got home a little before 10:00 which is nice on a Monday night. I am still kind of exhausted today, but lately it is par for the course.

Tonight I am going to a girls dinner for our ski house - the 4 girls in the house are getting together to get to know each other a little better, chat about the winter, and basically to bond. It should be fun. Thus I had to get up and run before work this morning or I would not be able to run. It was not all that bad although now it's 10:30 and I could stand to take a nap! Unfortunately I believe they frown upon that in a work setting.

I ran this course that I always thought was a little over 5 miles, but today I ran it in over 50 minutes so I am calling it 5.5 for mileage logging purposes, because as slow as I was going I do not think I was running over a 10 minute mile. At least I sure hope not! That would be kind of sad. I had a decent time, although my legs felt a bit dead, and I was dodging many sprinklers. This is one of my pet peeves. Why do they need to run the sprinklers at 7:00 am, when lots of people want to use parks, instead of in the dead of night? I guess I will never be able to change this unless I am in charge someday. Funny to think about what a runner would change. I would also like to have dirt sidewalks!

I think that I have prattled on for long enough, and now it is time to do some work today.
