Backdating my resolutions

I don't really make New Year's resolutions as I am far too disorganized (although as Audrey may have seen I do make running goals at the beginning of every year), but this year I have thought about backdating one because then I will have achieved it and that will be cool! The resolution would be to read more books and so far it is going gangbusters. Last night I finished 1984, which is the last in a long line of books I had in the queue. I had always wanted to read it as I really enjoy Orwell and it is one of three or so famous books in the negative utopia category. Which is always interesting if not terribly uplifting.

1984 is probably one of the saddest books I've read in a while. If you do not want me to spoil the ending for you, please skip down a paragraph or so, but I found the end to be so sad. The 'hero' of the book is just so completely defeated. I also found it really interesting however as everything in this negative utopia kind of society is a paradox - the truth is lies, war is peace, friends are enemies, etc., etc.

So that was cool. I am kind of out of books right now. I need to go over to my mom's, where about half of my books are, and get The Wings of the Dove - it is my favorite novel of all time and Matt is going to read it so I am going to read it while he does. It will be my fourth or fifth time but it never gets old except for certain sections which I warned Matt are terribly boring. I tried to explain late James to him the other day and I think he might think I am insane for enjoying it.

Anyway, this blog is apparently about running. Yesterday my old buddy F. and I tried to kill ourselves by going out way too fast in 90 degree temperatures so we had a rough time. We are disappointed in ourselves as we are old and slow now. We used to run in 100-degree temperatures all the time, and we just hammered! So we are going to try to run together more often and get back to our old form. I ran about 3.5 miles with Frank and 1.5 by myself. I planned to run more after work but Matt cooked dinner and I was exhausted as I have not been sleeping well so I was a big slacker. I did lift weights and do abs yesterday however.

This morning I could not sleep terribly well, but I got up at 7:00 and ran a little over 5 miles. I felt a bit slow but my legs and feet felt good so that was nice. My plan for today is to go to lunch with coworkers and then go to the gym around 3:30 and run more, or elliptical if I can't run. Then I am staying at work until Matt picks me up so we can go up to Boulder and see Twelfth Night at the Shakespeare festival. It should be fun!

So...you are one of "those" kind of people - the kind that actually reads a book more than once?! Like what the heck? I'll never understand it... :)

Seriously though - maybe you can read my 3 books for me? Can I transfer my resolutions onto you? :) I am proud to admit that I read 1984 though, and really enjoyed it.
