Trail Running, Skinny Jeans, and Terrible Movies
Kind of a grab bag of topics today, but what do you know. I have found that the less I run the more other stuff I enjoy talking about! And I am definitely not in a running-a-ton phase right now.
So I will start at the beginning: trail running at Deer Creek Canyon yesterday afternoon/evening. I got done with work shockingly early - everyone else was gone and I was scared being in the office alone, it was weird and it was so cold in here. So I was out at the Canyon running by about 4:30. As was noted in the national news we have been having some pretty crazy thunderstorms here of late and although it didn't rain or thunder during my run, it was really dark. It felt weird because I knew the sun wouldn't set for several more hours but it seemed like it was dusk. I had a great run that I am calling 9 miles (93 minutes), although the distances on the map say about 8.5. I really think they are short. This is a cool trail run because you go uphill for about 4.5 miles and then go downhill for about 4.5 miles, my favorite type of run. I hate going uphill at the end of a run! I had a great time and felt really good (which is good considering I practically ended up tapering for this run, unintentionally), so that was nice. Afterwards I drove home in a veritable flood on 6th Avenue (which oddly is actually a freeway type thing), so that was kind of crazy! People in Denver lose their brains when they have to drive in rain because it doesn't rain much here. It's much worse than snow.
So to move on to the next topic, not in order, after I picked up salads for us and got home, we watched a truly awful movie - Catwoman. I really cannot say enough bad things about this movie. First of all the story line is absurd, secondly it is boring, and thirdly most everything in the film is implausible and ridiculous. The villian is basically some over-Botoxed lady who from her Botox type product is really tough, and Catwoman essentially saves the world from a shoddy beauty product. No I am not kidding. It is absurd. I am all about the girl power movies and such but they really do need to have a plot.
And last but not least, this morning we overslept by about an hour somehow so I haven't worked out yet, but when I was getting ready and trying to decide what to wear, the specter of my skinny jeans in the closet overcame me and I decided to try them on. Now these are not ridiculously small jeans but they did not fit last summer when I was running 70 miles a week so they are very traumatic to me. God only knows why they fit now and they didn't then, but they do! So that was kind of cool. It is nice to have some validation that not eating dessert all the time actually does something for you.
So because of the whole oversleeping thing, this is the plan for the day - 65 minutes on the elliptical at lunchtime; 4-5 miles running after work. It is possible that I'll take the day off from running and go for a bike ride instead after work, but we'll see. Then tonight, I am so excited, we are going to dinner with friends at my favorite Thai restaurant! What a good Wednesday.

i feel like all the eliterunning bloggers (and a lot of other bloggers actually) are on a trail running kick. craziness. it sounds like your run was really cool.
and the whole "skinny jean" concept reminds me of a Sex and the City episode (not sure if it really was an episode, just seems like something they would cover...)
have fun at Thai!

Yeah!!! Skinny jeans fit!!! I think that maybe (at least in my case) when we run less, our quads shrink, therefore making pants fit better. It's my theory, because my pants fit much tighter when I'm running 70 mile weeks. Thanks on the tip on what movie to avoid!
