Good bye to fall

Yesterday looked a lot like Tuesday. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical in the morning, although this time I got to do it at home, because Ryan feel asleep at 8am, since we had been up since 5am. In the evening I ran the same 3 miles in the dark with my husband and Ryan in his jogging stroller. It is really nice having it be warm enough to do that, but it looks like the fall weather is leaving us today. They are predicting a lot of snow tonight. I am hoping to get a good run in before it comes, since my husband has a 2:30pm doctors appointment and is coming home when it is over. I am going to leave Ryan with him and head out into the rain to run this 6 mile route that I just mapped out. I am trying to explore some new options in routes, since I have a tendancy to just run the same route that I know over and over again for any given distance.

I love this weather!

Saturday I was busy all day, but had planned to run in the late afternoon. However, instead I ended up taking Ryan for a 90 minute walk in his carrier to try and get him to take a reasonable nap, since he wasn't feeling good and nothing else was working to get him to sleep. I am trying to keep a flexible mind set with this new parenting thing and be please I got to get outside and enjoy the good weather and get some exercise even if it was not running. Sunday I ran my 5 mile loop and pushed the pace, since I am tired of feeling out of shape and ran it 2 minutes faster than earlier in the week. Monday I did 35 minutes of elliptical and than had a wonderful 6 mile run in the afternoon. My parents watched Ryan for me for the afternoon, since he had not been sleeping well while he has been sick. So took advantage of the time to get out in the 60 degree weather and run before taking a nap. Today I did 35 minutes on the elliptical and some upper body and ab exercises in the morning and ran 3 miles in the evening with my husband and Ryan in his jogging stoller as it was getting dark (can you believe it was still warm enough to run in shorts and a tee-shirt!). Now if I could just shake this cold that I have had for so long, I would be happy. At least I am starting to feel better, hopefully no relapse this time. So I should get going and get to sleep, in case Ryan's cold keeps him and therefore me from sleeping later in the night.

Thanksgiving week

It's been a while since I have updated, so let me see if I can remember what I did the past week. My college friends stayed at my house from Thursday through Saturday last week.
On Friday I just sat around and caught up with everyone, I think it's the first day since leaving the hospital that I have not even taken a walk.
Saturday- I ran 4 miles after my friends left.
Sunday- I got really congested (yes, I still have this cold!) and only made it 2 miles of my run before calling it quits for the day.
Monday- 40 minutes on the elliptical & ran 1 mile on the treadmill at the Y, and lifted in the evening
Tuesday- 30 minutes elliptical in the morning and a 4 mile fartlek and lifting in the evening
Wednesday- 30 minutes elliptical in the morning and 2.5 miles running in the evening. I ran to the Y to meet my husband and lift, but Ryan got really upset as soon as we put him in child care (it turns out he was getting sick) and we had to take him home so we did not get to lift.
Thursday- ran 5 miles outside on a beautiful sunny morning (love having my husband home to watch Ryan) before heading over to family to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Today I ran the same 5 mile loop that I ran yesterday, although I did not enjoy it as much, since I was running 1 mile for each hour of sleep that I got...Ryan's cold is making it hard for him to breathe and therefore sleep. So he was pretty much done with sleeping a little before 3am this morning, which I am not enjoying at all, since I am still a bit under the weather myself.

Early morning "almost run"

Yesterday I did my normal 30 minutes on the ellitpical trainer and added abs and a stretch in the morning. I went for an hour long walk carrying Ryan in his carrier in the afternoon, but no running. This morning I decided I would get up early and run before Ryan normally wakes up (my husband would be here sleeping if he did), since I have some friends from out of town arriving this afternoon and a Bible study in the morning (so no Y). I looked out my window when I got up and not only was it pitch dark, but it was raining hard and about 34 degrees! Since I am still getting over being sick it did not seem like a good idea, so it was another elliptical workout for me this moring. I guess I should be pleased that I am getting consistant workouts in, while still recovering from being sick and adjusting to life with my little guy, but I miss running consistantly. Other forms of working out are just that...work. I love to run. As soon as I get over this sickness I am going to have to try harder to find a schedule that allows me to run consistantly without my coaching time in the afternoon. I might have to look into hiring a babysitter a couple of times a week.

Starting to feel better

Today is day 4 on my antibiodics and I am finally starting to feel a bit better. I did 30 minutes of elliptical trainer followed by 2 miles of intervals on the treadmill yesterday morning. I can't stand running on the treadmill, but with lack on babysitting except at the gym I thought I should get a bit of actual running in anyway. This morning I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and spent almost 20 minutes doing a good stretching routine (something I don't do near enough of). Right now I am waiting for my parents to arrive (they have been out of town for the past week) and my mother is going to babysit Ryan while I run 4 miles with my dad. So my running routine is starting to pick back up slowly and the good thing is I have lifted everyday (I rotate muscle groups)and done the elliptical everyday but one since last Thursday and have plans to hit the gym tonight with my husband after he gets back from work/I get back from this run.

Antibiotics

Well, I finally broke down and went to the doctors towards the end of the week and he gave me a persciption for antibiotics for this sickness that I just can't shake. I was reluctant to take them since I am nursing Ryan (even though they said this was okay to take, but since I hate putting medicine in my own body, it is really hard to put it in my baby), but after getting worse again on Friday night I filled the persciption and started taking the medicine yesterday. I have not done much running, just a couple of short runs, between being sick and my husband being out of town the past couple of days (leaving me with no babysitter). I did do the elliptical and lift weights 3 times this week, since I can leave Ryan in the daycare at the Y in the mornings.

Sick

Let me tell you, I hate being sick in normal times, and with a 3 month old baby it is even worse. Somehow I just can't get him to understand that mommy wants to lay on the couch and not move so he should go change his own diaper... My return to better running was going pretty good until I caught this horrible cold from one of the girls I coach the Sunday before last. I almost never get sick, it's been more than a year since I have been, but I got two bad nights of sleep (which I could not help) right after being around the germs and here I am. I thought I was finally getting better over the weekend, but I think being out in the cold all Saturday at the girls State meet pushed me back again. I am feeling as bad as I did last week at this time. I did run every day but Sunday last week, but just the few miles the girls ran the week before the end of the season. Yesterday I did a run/walk with Ryan in his jogging stroller, but since I took another turn for the worse last night and it's raining I have not done even that much today.
