Ryan is sleeping...
Ryan is sleeping right now, so I thought I would take a few minutes to update this blog. Yesterday I ran 3 miles in the morning with my cross country girls and 3.5 miles in the evening with my husband. We dropped Ryan off in the evening at my in-laws and got to enjoy the cooler weather by going for a run and walking around our neighborhood just the 2 of us. Running is starting to feel easier, although I am still going pretty short and not particularly fast. I am planning on doing both my "long run" of 7 miles and my first attempt at a speed workout over the long weekend. Hopefully since easy runs are starting to feel easier, it means I am ready to start doing some hard runs.
As soon as Ryan wakes up and eats we are off to pick my car up from the mechanics. I am so glad they fixed it, since having one car to share with my husband has not been easy with Ryan and my random coaching schedule of these weeks before school starts.

Rain
I have been really tired trying to fit coaching two practices a day around raising a newborn baby and getting back to running myself. The good news is that Ryan has been sleeping longer stretches at a time during the night this week, so hopefully we are moving in the right direction.
As far as running goes, here is a summery of what I have done since my last entry:
Thursday- 60 minutes elliptical trainer and lifted upper body (due to huge storms we canceled both pracices and I took advantage of it and did a non-impact day, since my body is certainly feeling the return to running)
Friday- ran 4.5 hilly miles with the girls I coach easy at about 8:30 minute miles
Saturday- ran 5 miles on my own on dirt roads (which my legs liked at lot better than the sidewalks we run on during practices) easy at about 8:30 minute miles
Sunday- 30 minutes elliptical trainer and 90 minute hike
Monday- ran 3 miles easy at 8 minute mile pace (glad that is starting to feel easy at least for short runs) and did 30 minutes elliptical trainer and stretched in the evening (another canceled practice due to weather)
Today- I ran 2.5 mile warming up and cooling down with the girls for their workout and am going to run 4 miles this evening with them.
I totaled 26 miles last week (I ran 13 miles the first week, 23 the second week back to running) and am planning to run 29 miles this week.

Ryan Andrew
My son, Ryan Andrew, was born a month ago on July 21 at 10:56pm. He weighed 7lbs 7 oz, was 21 inches long and has been healthy and growing ever since. I am now ready to get back into my training and wanted to pick up this blog again, even though I have a ways to go before I am back in racing shape. I ran 3-5 miles 5-6 days a week, although at a slower and slower pace, up until 27 weeks through my pregnancy. At that point, Ryan decided it would be fun to jump up and down on my sciatic nerve, which ended my running if I wanted to be able to walk normally. After a few weeks letting it recover I did the elliptical trainer, swam and walked a lot to try and keep myself sane without running for the remaining weeks of pregnancy. Using the advice of my doctor I took 2 weeks off after Ryan was born. The first week back I ran/walked every other day and for the past one and a half weeks I have been running 3-6 miles 6 days a week, mostly with the high school girls cross country team I coach. I am still working hard to do fairly short runs at a almost normal pace, about 8 to 8:30 minute miles (I normally run about 7:15 - 7:45 for easy runs), but am enjoying running again so much. I am planning on running a 5k Oct. 1, with the goal of running fast enough to not be too ashamed of my time. I am hoping to back in true racing shape for the spring and summer races.
