Short and easy run

My hip flexor was slighltly less sore this morning than last night, but still bothered me quite a bit on the easy 3 mile run I did this morning. When I got back I stretched really well and did my strenthening exercises for my hamstrings and glutes and than iced my hip flexor. You have to love it when it takes longer to wrap up your run than to actually do it. Oh well, at least it does not feel much worse after running. I think that I am going to call the sports massage place in town and see if I can get in for an appointment. I have had several people suggest that might help and I know I am tight right now. I just get nervous that something I will do will make things worse, and make me have to stop running completely. But I know that its silly to let those fears keep me from doing things that will most likely get me better faster. The track team I coach has a meet this afternoon, so I will probably run a few more miles easy with them and make sure to stretch out well again.

Hey, I hear you on those fears. I was afraid to FOAM ROLLER my calf b/c I was afraid I was being too agressive in not letting those little fibers heal. Also, I once had a sports massage go bad. It actually HURT my quad b/c of their aggressive stretching and I couldn't run for a week or so. Um, most people haven't had that experience, and like sports massages, but I tend to stay away after that. (Plus, I had a bad quad injury in HS from soccer so there may be residual damage/tightness in my quad from that). I definitely don't mean to dissuade you from your course of action, I just wanted to support your feelings of anxiety and give the other side of the massage story. It should be fine as long as you really speak up if anything they are doing hurts (something I didn't). Feel better soon, and keep us posted on your recovery.

hang in there ann. running injured is such a bummer, since you don't feel like you're training to your true capabilities. good luck recovering and here's hoping you're back to top form quickly.

good luck to the girls team too!
