Fighting Germs

Its been a while since I updated. As you can tell from the title, I am trying not to get sick (my husband has been sick since before I got home from Flordia) and I am not sure if I am winning. Sunday, I left off saying I was going see if I could get my husband to go walking with me. He actually came up and suggested going to the park I had run at earlier and walking on the trails, just as I was posting that entry. So we ended up having a great walk for over an hour through the woods, and since it was later in the day, there were a lot less people than when I ran earlier, which was nice. Yesterday I woke up with a horrible headache and my throat a bit sore, so I went back to sleep. I did not wake up until 9:45! That is really late for me, anything past 8 is late for me. I still did not feel great, but I made myself do a little yoga (yeah me, actually focusing on stretching for once) and got myself into work. At track practice we had a mile repeat workout scheduled for the girls. I warmed up with them and than ran the first one with my fastest girl (5:56), the second with our next girl (6:23) and the third with the next girl (6:40). I am frustrated that running 6 minute pace is still feeling harder than it should, but amazed at how much difference it makes to drop back to 6:23 pace. I was chatting with the girl I was pacing and did not feel it at all. When I got done, I was feeling lazy, since I slowed down for the 2nd and 3rd intervals to pace different people, so I ran a 4th mile at 5:57 (although there was a cart on one of the corners, making me run all the way out to lane 8 each time around, so my time was probably a little faster). Than cooled down with the girls, so I got 8 miles in. At least I did some faster paced running, even if its not where I wish I was. Last fall I ran this same workout by myself at 5:45, 5:45, 5:41 and right now I think that the 5:56 pace I did for the first and last would be the fastest I could go. I have a couple of 5ks scheduled for the next few weekends. I am planning on training through them and running them as speed workouts, since I have a ways to go before I am in good racing shape again. Hopefully I can stay healthy so I can at least get a feel for where I am at in my training. This morning I slept in again, but am planning on doing a long run with the girls at practice this afternoon.
