Another new blogger

We have a new running-blogs blogger, Alisha, who just graduated from MIT.

I am still alive. I am adjusting to working somewhat regular hours in an office for the first time in more than five years. I like it, but I definitely have less time for a lot of the things I've been doing for the past several years. I love my new job so far, and I love being in Amherst.

P is coming back from Japan in several days, and I'll actually get to see him five days from now. I think this is the longest I've ever gone (aside from the first 25 years of my life) without seeing him.

I ran a half marathon on a whim this morning. I decided to do it yesterday, simply because I needed to do a workout today, and I wanted to do my workout with company. I didn't execute the race very well--I went too much on what time I thought I should be running, rather than basing it on how I felt. Every time I've done that recently, I haven't run well. Every time I base my pace on how I feel, I do well. That's a good reminder for next time.

I ran 1:31:55, one of my slowest half marathons ever. The good thing about it is that I am motivated to do something about it, so I'll be faster next time. I still worked really hard, it's just depressing to have such a hard effort yield such a slow pace. All the more reason to keep training hard!

Alison,

Ooh, a real office job? That must be so hard to adjust to, what with the freedom and flexibility you've had working from "wherever" over these last years.

Sorry your half didn't go as you wished it to. You weren't too displeased with your last shorter race, though. Perhaps this is a sign that you have decent shorter distance speed, but that you haven't yet developed the longer distance speed-endurance required for a half. It's cool you're motivated to work on it, though. :)

Hope you're well!
Meghan

Hello! I noticed a post you had left in another blog (from a long time ago) about pain in your hip flexor prior to your first marathon. I'm having the same problem and my marathon is in 6 weeks. Any advice?

Thanks!
