Getting back into it

I've been trying to really get back into running for quite a few months ago. Though I am probably in better shape than I was when I started this quest, I can't say I've made nearly as much progress as I would like. I have probably gotten sick six times this year. In most years, I would classify myself as someone who hardly ever gets sick. They've mostly been colds that just affect my running, not the rest of my life. I am just now getting over a cold that I got more than two weeks ago.

My running has been okay, but I have a long way to go, and all I can do is keep plugging away at it. Yesterday, I ran about 12.5 miles and then pool ran for 1:56. I would never intentionally spend that much in the pool while healthy, but I was accompanying two crosstraining athletes whose workouts didn't overlap at all. I purposely didn't work very hard, because I was already tired from my run. No, this was not a typical training day for me at all.

Today was a little more typical. I ran about 6.5 miles with two people who are much faster than I am. I was feeling pretty tired (I'm sure yesterday had something to do with it), so even though I don't think the pace was at all fast, I was relieved just to make it through the run. Now I am thinking that I should get on the elliptical tonight, but I will probably end up editing photos instead of doing that.

With Tufts' track season ending in less than two weeks, my schedule is going to change a lot. Initially I will be traveling a lot, with four major trips in about a month and a half, but then I will have lots of time on my hands this summer. While I am hoping to find some truly productive things with that time, I will also try to spend some of it getting back into really good shape, or at least moving in that direction a little quicker.

Mary:

Hi Alison, those little colds can set you back just enough to feel like your can't get consistent training in. Your two hours in the pool sounds like a lot. I am glad you will have a bit of free time this summer to do some training, a strong base should carry over into the fall when your schedule gets hectic! I hope your travels goes well, thanks for updating!

L:

Having been stuck in the pool for nearly 8 weeks now, 1:56 is a very long time to pool run! At least you had company to make the time go by much faster.
